How long does TREC take to approve a license application?

Honestly, TREC hasn't published one fixed number, and we'd rather tell you that straight than guess. TREC's own site currently says it's working through processing delays tied to system integrations between its REALM portal, its exam vendor, and DPS fingerprinting, and asks applicants to allow more time than the older estimates you may see elsewhere.

What is confirmed directly from the exam administrator's own handbook: once you pass your exam and clear your background check, TREC emails your license document within 5-10 business days. That's the most concrete, current turnaround figure available.

The steps leading up to that point look like this:

• Finish all 180 hours of your pre-licensing coursework.
• File your application online through TREC's REALM portal.
• Once TREC reviews it, you'll receive an eligibility letter with the ID number you need to schedule your exam through Pearson VUE.
• Pass your exam and clear your DPS/FBI background check.
• TREC emails your license document, typically within 5-10 business days.
