How to Get a Texas Real Estate License: 6 Steps

Getting a Texas real estate license takes six steps: complete 180 hours of TREC-approved pre-license courses, apply to TREC, get fingerprinted, pass the state exam, find a sponsoring broker, and start your career. Most School Estate students complete the whole process, coursework through licensed and placed, in about 10 weeks.

Step 1: Complete your pre-license courses

Six TREC-approved courses, 180 hours total: Principles of Real Estate I & II, Law of Agency, Law of Contracts, Promulgated Contract Forms, and Real Estate Finance. Most students finish in 6 to 8 weeks, studying about 1.5 hours a day. Every course comes with daily live Zoom study groups and a personal mentor instructor, a licensed Texas broker, available 7 days a week.

Step 2: Submit your TREC application

File your application with TREC. This starts the clock, and it's also your window to begin exam prep while your application processes.

Step 3: Get fingerprinted

A standard background check step, required by TREC for every applicant.

Step 4: Master your exam prep

Step 5: Pass the state exam
