How many times can you retake the Texas real estate exam?

You get three attempts to pass both the National and State portions before your TREC application expires. Here's exactly how it works:

• You only retake what you failed. If you pass the National portion but fail the State portion (or vice versa), you only retake that one portion, not the whole exam, as long as you do it within one year of the date your application was filed with TREC.
• There's a 24-hour wait.Re-exam reservations can't be made at the test center itself, and you'll pay the exam fee again each time ($43 for Sales, $39 for Broker).
• Three attempts total per portion.If you fail the same portion three times, you can't retest or submit a new application until you complete additional TREC-approved education: 30 hours if you failed only one portion (national or state), 60 hours if you failed both.
• Then you can reschedule. Submit your course completion document(s) and a copy of your third failed score report to TREC. Allow 5-7 business days for TREC to process it and authorize Pearson VUE to let you reschedule.

If your original application expires before this is resolved, you'll need to reapply and meet whatever requirements are current at that time.
